New York Knicks Replace Jeremy Lin by Signing Raymond Felton?

Puzzling news reported today that the New York Knicks have signed Raymond Felton. Reports from ESPN say the Knicks will complete a sign and trade deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. The deal will bring point guard Raymond Felton and Kurt Thomas to New York in exchange for Dan Gadzuric and Jard Jeffreies.

The deal now gives the New York Knicks two former starting point guards on their roster in Felton and Jason Kidd. Where does Jeremy Lin fit into their plans. Well, with an offer sheet from the Houston Rockets set to expire Tuesday night, pershaps Jeremy Lin is no longer in the New York Knicks future plans.

Houston Rockets Sign Jeremy Lin

Sources tell ESPN that Jeremy Lin has signed an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets, as expected. The new contract is reported to be $25 million for three years. The contract would break down as $5 million, $5.225 million, $14.8 million over the three years. 

The New York Knicks now have three days to match the offer signed by Lin and the Rockets, or Linsanity will leave New York. The large market team saw increases in attendance, merchandise, and television ratings when the undrafted Harvard University graduate became a star in the making.

If the New York Knicks match Jeremy Lin's contract offered by the Houston Rockets, it would give them four players all making over $14 million in the 2014-2015 season. Currently the Knicks have the following players signed for 2014-2015....

New York Knicks starting point guard Jeremy Lin was nominated for his first ESPY Award. Lin even factored into host Rob Riggle’s opening monologue at Wednesday’s award show. Riggle joked, “What a heartwarming story, it’s so refreshing to see a young Asian kid graduate from Harvard, move to New York and make a ton of money.”

Has all this free agency drama hur the New York Knicks relationship with point guard Jeremy Lin. A report out of ESPN today says Lin is upset that he hasn't been offered a contract by the New York Knicks. Lin is expected to sign an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets. New York Knicks Reach Sign and Trade for Marcus Camby

After entering a four team race, it appears that Marcus Camby is heading back to the New Yor Knicks. A deal is expected to be announced on Wednesday July 11th. The sign and trade was reached with the Houston Rockets, who still had Marcus Camby's rights. New York will send Toney Douglas, Jerome Jordan, and Josh Harrellson to Houston. Houston also receives the Knicks second round picks in the 2014 and 2015 NBA Drafts.

The Knicks will pay Camby $13.2 million over four years. Marcus Camby was a member of the New York Knicks for four years. He is expected to be the backup center to Tyson Chandler after once being the Knicks starting center.

J.R. Smith Resigns With New York Knicks

Shooting guard J.R. Smith has been resigned by the New York Knicks. Smith was the go to shooting guard off the bench, replacing Landry Fields in games during the 2011-2012 season. With Fields now bolting for the Toronto Raptors, the Knicks decided to resign the former first round pick.

Smith played in 35 games last year after signing a deal with the Knicks. Prior to that he played in the Chinese Basketball Association for the Zheijang Golden Bulls. In China, Smith averaged 34.4 points per game in 36 minutes per contest. Smith posted 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game for the Knicks. The rebounds marked his second highest total, while the steals were a career high for Smith.
